About

Each spring, the Houston Foresight community comes together for our annual Spring Gathering, a dynamic weekend of learning, networking, and celebration. We keep this even in “the family” for our current students, faculty, alumni (Master’s and Certificate), and some friends (invite only) to reconnect, share ideas, and strengthen the foresight network. We are planning to add an “open to the public” event in the future.

The 2026 Spring Gathering will be held April 10–11, 2026 at our new location on the University of Houston Sugar Land campus.

Friday: Activation Lab & Evening Social

The weekend begins with the Foresight Activation Lab, an interactive session where participants experiment with new foresight tools and approaches. We also feature presentations from student winners of the Houston Foresight Awards [see below].
The lab will run from 1 pm – 4:30 CST

In the evening, the conversations continue over dinner, networking, and plenty of socializing.

Saturday: Conference Theme: TRANSFORMATION

SG 26 will focus on Transformation at global, community, organizational, and personal levels. We’re inviting abstracts [see below] on processes, outcomes, and pathways of transformation – whether ideas, tools, demos, or pilots.
Spring Gathering will run from 8:30 am – ~5pm CST

The event is free and open to Master’s and Certificate alums, students, and faculty, with plenty of networking, fun, and our legendary party in Sugar Land.

This annual tradition is more than just an event – it’s a chance to learn, connect, and co-create the future with a vibrant community of foresight professionals and enthusiasts.

2026 Theme: Transformation

Last year, we touched on transformation as we celebrated our 50th anniversary and looked ahead to the next 50 years of the program. Our world is currently in a period of high uncertainty and turbulence… without a clear sense of where it wants to go. Transformation is needed, but… to what, how do we do it, and what is the pathway like?

SG 26 will be all about transformation. Not just at the global level, but also at the community, organizational, and personal levels.

The three main tracks we are thinking about:

  • Transformation processes: how do we do it?
  • Transformation outcomes: what’s the futures look like?
  • Transformation pathways: what’s the journey look like?

Speaking and sharing spots are open to Master’s and Certificate alums, current students… and faculty! We will, of course, have our usual fun and games, networking, and partying. The event is free… you just need to get here and find a place to stay.

The Houston Foresight Awards celebrate and recognize outstanding student work in the field of Foresight. This new competition highlights excellence across individual and group projects completed in 2025, showcasing the creativity, rigor, and vision of our students.

Projects from designated foresight courses will be evaluated by the Houston Foresight Advisory Board, with winners invited to present at the Spring Gathering. By spotlighting the best of our community’s work, the Awards aim to encourage innovation, collaboration, and leadership in shaping the future.
