Spring Gatherings

The annual Houston Foresight Spring Gatherings are held over a weekend in April. It brings together futures students, faculty, alumni and friends to get together, network, socialize, and learn. There is typically a dinner and social event on Friday evening, a day-long conference on Saturday, and a home-based party on Saturday night.

Each year, the UH Foresight Team is intentional about identifying where curiosities lie and so frame the Gathering with a set of inquiries. This year’s theme, Being and Becoming Human, provides an opportunity to explore the myriad aspects of what it means to be human and how the conception of self is changing.

  • What does the future tell us about what it means to be human?
  • How do technologies and concepts like AI, AGI, and the Singularity factor into our perceptions of ourselves?
  • What futures of humanity are available to us through different cultural and social lenses?
  • How can futurists help society navigate the loss of anticipated futures in light of changing climate, values, and social infrastructure?

The Gathering will take place April 19 and 20, 2024. A tentative schedule follows, and a more detailed agenda will be provided closer to the date of the event.
