Professor Emeritus Oliver Markley joined our Alternative Perspectives class last week on visioning. Since the readings were mostly his, it was great to hear from him directly. He set the stage by describing how he developed an interest in visioning, emphasizing the development of “transcendental” intuition. He distinguishes transcendental from “memory-based” intuition, in that it draws forth new insights rather than uncovering insights from memory (nothing wrong with that, just a different thing). We went through three different exercises in class – he mentioned how sometimes it takes a while to get through the theory, so the exercises get short shrift – so we reversed it and went exercise first.
It was a valuable experience for students and we’re so please to have guest lecturers who are willing to donate their precious time. Oliver has done it many times over the years and we’re grateful for that. We have several others guest lectures for this students this semester – we’ll keep y’all posted on how they go. Andy Hines.
