On behalf of the UH Futures program, we would like to thank all students and graduates who were able to join us for last weekend’s networking and seminar events. A special thanks to Kuan-Wei for capturing the wonderful moments via photographs!

The weekend kicked off with drinks and talks of futures at the oldest bar in Houston, Leon’s Lounge. Saturday focused on two presentations by Program Director Dr. Peter Bishop and Executive-in-Residence Andy Hines. Bishop proposed a novel framework for supporting statements of plausibility within scenarios (see Scenario Support Powerpoint). Specifically, Bishop noted that because the credibility of futures is at stake, there is a growing need to integrate critical thinking into scenario development to support scenario statements more explicitly with evidence and reasons for their plausibility. Hines also provided insight (or rather hinesight) into his values research, currently in the book compilation process. Participants in his  program took a personal values assessment in order to see firsthand the current worldwide shift in values. After the presentation, the groups migrated to an evening of barbeque and drinks at Andy & Brigit’s home in the Heights. A brunch on Sunday concluded the festivities. All in all, the weekend both touched upon groundbreaking futures methodologies and also provided a forum for professionals to learn about their colleagues current work.
