So now that Dr. Bishop has retired from the Futures program, what’s he been up to lately? Sunning on a remote beach in Belize, sipping a Corona and letting his beard grow wild? Don’t be silly.
Dr. Bishop’s continuing mission to teach futures has led him to become a Center Fellow with the Center for Houston’s Future, and to develop a curriculum for futures studies for younger generations. His pilot class took place with seniors at Emery High School in southwest Houston. The students focused on Houston 2040, with domains in sports, education, climate change, and healthcare, to name a few, and at the end of the school year, they presented their scenarios to the Center for Houston’s Future staff.
Bishop’s diabolical plan is to construct a futures course for teachers and students to use throughout the region, and then eventually the world! Based on the glowing reviews, I believe he’s off to an awesome start. To read the Houston Chronicle’s article on Dr. Bishop and his class, click here.
Is anyone else a little jealous that they didn’t have a futures course in their high school?
