We are pleased as punch to announce that Jason Swanson, Kate Burgess-Macintosh and Laura Schlehuber (all current Foresight students) will be presenting at this year’s World Future Society’s annual gathering, WorldFuture 2014: What If.
Description of their presentation follows:

An Age of Stagnation?

Much time and energy has been spent in an attempt to return the global economy to its pre-recession trajectory. What if it is not possible to return to business as usual? This session will examine the case against a return to business as usual.
It will consider three elements – debt, technology, and demography – that argue that we have entered a sustained period of sluggish economic growth by posing three core questions:

  1. Will the rebalancing of the global economy undermine the ability of economies to restore prosperity quickly?
  2. Have the long term trends in innovation reached a moment of pause, to undermine future growth prospects?
  3. Are the demographic trends facing the world likely to act as a brake upon future economic growth?

If this view is correct, then it can help individuals, organizations, and governments to make better decisions about their futures.
The conference last from July 11-13 in Orlando, Florida. For more details, check out the official site.
