Last week, Dr. Bishop was invited to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts as the first guest speaker for their Vision and Choices lecture series. His topic: Designing for a future of the invisible.
He argues that the future of technology is moving from the macro to the micro. Petroleum was the innovation of the past, and we designed all sorts of huge machines around it, from car to planes to trains. Nowadays, however, our technological designs are at the micro level, a level that we have a hard time visualizing. Based on this trend, Dr. Bishop feels that the people who will be successful in the future will be the ones that partner with their machines. He rounds off the lecture with an appeal to educate children about the future as much as we educate them about the past.
